Megan Hogan Named A-10 Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year

George Washington senior Megan Hogan was named the Atlantic 10 Student Athlete of the Year in women's cross country Tuesday, as announced by the Atlantic 10 Conference. Hogan boasts a 3.37 grade point average as an Interior Design major and became George Washington's first ever A-10 individual champion, after winning the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championships earlier this season in St. Louis, Mo.

The George Washington Colonials track teams resumed action again on Saturday and were led once again by seniors Megan Hogan and Dan Cartica. Hogan finished 11th overall in the women's 6K race with a time of 21:01. Junior Jessica Stern finished second for the Colonials with a time of 23:07.

George Washington senior Megan Hogan won the A-10 Championship handily on Saturday morning, blowing past the field by 400 meters. She finished with a time of 18:37.8, nearly a full minute ahead of Charlotte's Amanda Goetschius who finished with a time of 19:33.3.

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's athletic teams are uniting during the 2009-10 season to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research through the GW Women's Athletics Thinks Pink Initiative. GW women's teams have already kicked off the campaign by raising an initial $4500 for cancer research by selling T-shirts in a competition between the teams.

Senior Megan Hogan led the George Washington Colonials women's cross country team for the second straight race after she finished fifth overall at the Paul Short Invitational on the campus of Lehigh University. Seniors Megan Hogan and Dan Cartica led the Colonials in the Navy Invite Saturday as both squads had fifth place finishes in Annapolis, MD. Hogan and junior Jessica Stern had impressive 17th and 18th place finishes for the Colonials as they had times of 23:37 and 23:38 respectively.

On the women's side, a pair of freshman paced the Colonials in a race where head coach Brian Beil held out top runner Megan Hogan. Newcomers Heather Stevens and Julia Weir finished 20th and 21st place with very close times of 20:01 and 20:05 respectively. A third freshman rounded out the top three for the Colonials when Alexandra Smargiassi finished with a time of 20:16 to finish in 23rd place. The women's squad finished fourth out of six schools in the race.
