NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Graduate student Angela Ryck has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Ryck finished first overall out of 53 runners at Saturday's Catholic Invitational, leading the Colonials to a second-place finish at the event.
The win marked the first in the collegiate career for Ryck, who came to George Washington following her graduation from Notre Dame.
The Fairport, N.Y., native finished the 6,000-meter course in 23:06.00, about six seconds ahead of the field.
Her first-place finish stands as the first time a GW women's harrier has won a race since Megan Hogan '11 won her second consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship in October 2010.
Ryck is also the first Colonial harrier to win a weekly award from the Atlantic 10 since Hogan won the award in October 2010.
GW will run it its second straight local meet this Saturday at the Salty Dog Invitational in Annapolis, Md.
