Two Records Fall at Navy Sweetheart Multi-Mix
Brown (mile) and DiBiasio (5000m) shatter school records in final meet before A-10 Championship
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A pair of indoor program records were shattered and all 11 of the George Washington women's track competitors set new personal records at Thursday night's Navy Sweetheart Multi-Mix Invitational at the Wesley A. Brown Field House at the United States Naval Academy.
Junior Miranda DiBiasio set a new program record in the 5000-meter run, topping the field of 11 competitors to win in 17:04.23. The time broke Hannah Rowe's previous record from the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship (17:08.70) by just over four seconds and was a new personal best for DiBiasio by 19 seconds.
Senior Ariana North also competed in the 5000m and set a new personal record with a time of 18:26.69 to claim sixth place.
In the mile, sophomore Halley Brown won the event by besting 28 competitors in a new record time of 4:57.44, beating GW's previous indoor record, held by Lauren t'Kint de Roodenbeke (5:00.76), by just over three seconds. Brown finished ahead of personal-best performances by teammates Madison Yerke (2nd, 5:05.71) and Suzanne Danneheim (4th, 5:10.18).
All five of GW's runners in the 3000-meter run enjoyed personal-best performances. Senior Macaulay Porter was the top performer, placing second overall out of 16 competitors in 10:14.65. She was joined in the top five by freshman Gabriella Vlattas (2nd, 10:39.22), ahead of sophomore Kelli Stetson (10:39.22), sophomore Lesley Fatica (10th, 10:56.24) and freshman Macy Evans (14th, 11:21.37)).
Sophomore Lauren Anderson rounded out GW's performances at the event, placing fifth overall in the 800-meter run in a new personal-record time of 2:27.08.
GW will be idle next weekend as it prepares for the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track Championship, February 18-19, in Fairfax, Virginia.
