GW Women's Cross Country Goes 5-1 at Mount St. Mary's Duals
DiBiasio Places Second to Lead Three Top-10 Finishers
EMMITSBURG, Md. - Sophomore Miranda DiBiasio finished in second place out of 80 competitors to lead the George Washington women's cross country team to a 5-1 record at Friday's season-opening Mount St. Mary's Duals.
GW posted dual wins over American, Maryland, Towson, Mount St. Mary's and Loyola (Md.) and was defeated by only UMBC.
DiBiasio completed the 5,000-meter course in 18:40.5, just one second off her personal best 5K cross country time, to lead a trio of Colonials in the top 10.
A number of freshmen made their collegiate debuts at Friday's event. Freshman Kelli Stetson was the Colonials' top rookie performer, tallying a 14th-place finish after navigating the course in 19:35.70. Classmate Madison Yerke followed in 19:38.1 for 16th place.
Also making their collegiate debuts on Friday was Brigid Prial (20:09.4, 23rd place), Lauren Anderson (20:11.4, 26th), Halley Brown (20:18.8, 28th), Rachel Hughen (20:23.8, 31st) and Leslie Fatica (21:09.6). Rounding out GW's lineup was junior Anna Zaccaria (21:01.0, 38th) and senior Katie Bishop (21:15.6, 43rd).
GW returns to action at the Navy Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the United States Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Maryland.
