Outdoor Track Enjoys Strong Weekend at Mason Spring Invite
Men break two records while women post trio of personal records
FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Washington men's outdoor track team set a pair of new program records, while the women's team saw three student-athletes set new personal records at the Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday at George Mason Stadium.
Sophomore sprinter Jared Nelson broke his own record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.34, beating the old mark by three-hundredths of a second.
Senior Carter Day, who recently set the new program record in the 5,000-meter run at the Raleigh Relays, added another record to his resume in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Day finished second overall in the field of 19 competitors with a time of 9:01.45, which beat Matt Lange's week-old record by six seconds.
The performance marks the fastest steeplechase time in the Atlantic 10 this spring with Day and Lange (9:07.86) occupying the top two spots in the rankings.
