Seven GW Athletics Teams Recognized by NCAA With APR Public Recognition Award
GW Accounts For More Than Ten Percent of A-10 Schools' Team Recognitions
WASHINGTON - The NCAA announced Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR) Public Recognition Awards today with teams across the country that finished with an APR in the top 10 percent in their sport garnering accolades.
GW's women's cross country, golf, women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's water polo teams were honored.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
"Our top priority in GW Athletics is to prepare our student-athletes for the rest of their lives beyond college," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero. "By achieving top Academic Progress Rates, these seven sports have set the standard and have truly become the Champions in the Classroom that we strive for them to be."
Today's announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
This continues a trend in which GW Athletics has seen at least six teams earn APR Public Recognition Awards in the last four years, with a high of nine teams in last year's report.
