GW Cross Country Headed to Navy Invitational
Colonials Look to Build Successful Opening Week
WASHINGTON - George Washington's men's and women's cross country teams will return to action at this weekend's Navy Invitational at the United States Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Maryland.
The men's team will compete in the 8,000-meter Navy Invitational at 10:00 a.m. in a field that includes the host Midshipmen, American, Bowie State, Georgetown, Loyola (Md.), Maryland and McDaniel.
The men's squad went 2-2 at last weekend's Mount St. Mary's Duals, led by senior Ryan Tucker's fifth-place performance. He recorded a career-best cross country 5K time of 16:05.7 to lead the Colonials.
Tucker finished in 20th place out of 89 competitors at last year's Navy Invitational as the Colonials finished in sixth place as a team.
The women's team will run in the 5,000-meter Salty Dog Invitational at 11:00 a.m. against Navy, American, Bowie State, Loyola (Md.), Maryland and McDaniel.
The squad finished 5-1 against the field at last weekend's Mount St. Mary's Duals with a trio of top-10 finishers in sophomore Miranda DiBiasio (2nd, 18:40.5), junior Macaulay Porter (4th, 18:59.2) and junior Ariana North (9th, 19:26.0).
The women's team had six freshman make their collegiate debuts with rookie Kelli Stetson leading the way with a 14th-place finish in 19:35.70.
At last season's Salty Dog Invitational, the women's team finished in fifth place with DiBiasio pacing the Colonials in 18th place (23:18.25).
