WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's and women's cross country teams will partner with Pacers Running to co-host this weekend's DCXC/GW Invitational on Saturday morning at Kenilworth Park in Northeast Washington, D.C.
The meet is the first home event hosted by GW's cross country programs since 2005.
The women's 5,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m., followed by the men's 5K installment at 11:15 a.m.
The women's squad moved up one spot to No. 11 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll, the highest regional ranking in program history.
The Colonials are coming off a first-place tie at the Salty Dog Invitational at the United States Naval Academy on Sept. 26. Through two events this season, the women's team has totaled seven top-15 finishes, including a win by sophomore Miranda DiBiasio at the Salty Dog Invitational, the first by a GW harrier since 2013.
The women's squad will face American and Howard on Saturday.
The men's team has totaled three top-15 individual finishes across the first two meets of the season. Senior Ryan Tucker paces the Colonials after finishing in sixth place out of 51 competitors at the Navy Invitational on Sept. 26. GW's men will face American, Howard and Catholic on Saturday, which marks the second 5,000-meter race of the season for the Colonials.
Kenilworth Park is located in Northeast Washington, across the Anacostia River from the National Arboretum. The 5,000-meter European-style loop course features very slight up and down hills in the opening mile before giving way to turns and dips that will challenge runners throughout the remainder of the course.
