GW Women's Track Opens at CNU Holiday Open

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The George Washington women's indoor track team opened its season with a sixth-place finish at the Christopher Newport University Holiday Open at the Freeman Center on Saturday.

The Colonials placed a pair of runners in the top ten of the 3000-meter run. Sophomore Miranda DiBiasio set a new personal record with a seventh-place finish in 10:23.62. She was joined in the top 10 by freshman Madison Yerke (9th, 10:37.68).

The Colonials had a trio of runners compete in the 400m run: freshman Gianna Smith led the pack with a school-record time of 1:01.44 for 10th place, while classmates Taryn Milbourne (15th, 1:03.22) and Camille Sery-Ble (20th, 1:06.38) also turned in times that bested the previous program record.

GW's rookies also provided a new program record in the 200-meter dash. Milbourne posted a new program best in 27.45 for 17th place overall. Smith followed in 18th place in 27.72.

Junior Kirsten Zeller paced the Colonials in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.49 for 15th place. Also competing in the event was freshman Cassidy Elkins (18th, 2:35.86) and junior Malone Gabor (24th, 2:44.88).

GW will return to the Freeman Center in Newport News on January 23 for the CNU Captains Invitational.
