Colonials win ninth straight at The Tuck
ARLINGTON, Va. - George Washington baseball continued its strong start to A-10 play on Friday, cruising to a 9-1 victory against Dayton at Tucker Field.
As has been the case the last five games, GW gave its starter a lead after the first. The Buff & Blue plated three runs via a wild pitch and an infield hit to go up 3-0 after the opening stanza.
With the lead in hand, it was Harrison Cohen's time to shine, and the Syosset, N.Y., native was dominant. Cohen allowed just five hits over eight innings while tying his career-high in strikeouts with 11. The right-hander has been absolutely superb at home this year, pitching to a 0.97 ERA with 25 Ks in five starts, all of them wins.
GW continued to feast on Dayton pitching in the later innings, plating six more runs after the fourth. A solo homer to center by Noah Levin and an RBI double by Anthony Frechette were the biggest offensive highlights of the afternoon. In total, GW racked up 11 hits, while Levin and Frechette both finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
George Washington's victory was its ninth straight at home, and the Colonials are now an impressive 15-3 at The Tuck this season.
GW will look to push its record to 5-0 in conference play when it takes on Dayton again tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Tucker Field.
